Claire Manumission wrote a memoir, The Motel: High Times in ’90s Ibiza
A new memoir, The Motel: High Times in ’90s Ibiza, is set to be published by Unbound.
Iconic club promoter Claire Manumission, who ran the legendary Ibiza Manumission parties alongside her partner Mike at Privilege, has penned a memoir which offers a “dark and humorous look at hedonism in 90s Ibiza embraced by Drugs”.
“During its 14-year history, more than 1.5 million people have attended Manumission in Ibiza,” read a press release. “It was the biggest weekly party in the world, earning it a spot on the Guinness World Records. In 1998, as Manumission entered its 5th year, Mike and Claire decided to take over an abandoned brothel on the outskirts from Ibiza Town and turn it into a 24-hour party destination – The Motel.
“Under the neon glow of a sign that promised Bar, Bed and Breakfast for a lost summer, this acid-free dollhouse became home to a wild menagerie of DJs, models, international pop stars, best-selling writers, New York strippers and don’t ask questions drug dealers – all of Bohemia was there.”
Speaking of the book, Claire Manumission said: “The story is inspired by all my years in Ibiza, woven through time: from the carefree early days of meeting and falling in love with Mike – on his quest to universal freedom – how Together we turned Manumission into the biggest weekly party in the world.
“The sex shows, the controversy, the betrayals and finally the abolition of the Manumission but it’s mostly told by The Motel, the wild long weekend of my 24th birthday – the weekend Norman Cook met Zoe Ball and Lisa I’Anson missed her Radio 1 broadcast and was later fired very publicly on BBC News at Six.The Motel is a dark, humorous look at hedonism in drug-embraced 90s Ibiza.
“It’s the story of the Motel – but it’s also the story of the 1990s when, for a few brief years, a generation decided to throw off the chains of the past and be free to do what they wanted to do”.
The book is currently 55% funded, with a number of tiers of reward donations ranging from £25 to have your name printed in The motel: High Times in the Ibiza of the 90s, to £10,000 to have a dedicated page, nickname and inclusions in some of The Motel’s craziest stories.
