Coppell – Mary Gretchen Jett Munday, a resident of Coppell, Texas, died at the age of 80 at her vacation home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Munday, as well as her parents, Charles and Edith Jett, and her siblings, Charlot Jett and Jerry Jett. She is survived by her children, Baxter Stringfellow, Kris Stringfellow, Leslie Munday, Laura Austin and her grandson, Will Austin. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Cheryl Warriner, and her beloved niece and nephew, Charlee Moore and Trey Hale. Born and raised in Wickes, Arkansas, she earned a degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She has held many positions, including Director of Laboratory Services at St. Mary’s Hospital in Russellville, Arkansas. She had two children, Baxter and Kris, from her first marriage before meeting her second husband on a blind date arranged by their best friends. In 1976, Gretchen married Robert and adopted his children, Laura and Leslie. She raised all four children in Austin, Texas, before returning to school at St. Edward’s University, where she earned a master’s degree in counseling. For nearly four decades, Gretchen was a member of Austin Republican Women (ARW) and held every leadership position, including president. She was a devoted member of Hyde Park Baptist Church and Austin Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. She was a classical pianist and a lover of plants, animals and Arkansas Razorbacks (Go Hogs, Wooo Pig Sooie!).
A Celebration of Life will be held in Hot Springs, AR at Garvan Gardens in the Pavilion on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2 p.m. A Second Life Celebration will be held in Austin, TX at the Austin Baptist Church in Heritage Hall on June 11, 2022 at 1 p.m.
