Nestled in a scenic valley, Lake Washoe is a gem that locals and visitors can enjoy year-round. With views of the Sierra Nevada, Carson, and Virginia mountain ranges, the pristine lake offers a serene getaway in a largely underrated corner of the Silver State.
Washoe Lake State Park encompasses the lake and is a popular destination for hiking, camping, picnicking, water sports, and horseback riding. It is also popular for bird watching, as a diverse range of birds and waterfowl call the lake home.

Located just steps from the shore, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the lake directly from your tent or RV. The campground also includes two comfort stations (one with a shower), a group area for day and night use, and 24 sites with water and utility hookups.
If you are a fisherman, don’t forget your fishing rod. Fish are abundant in the lake, with channel catfish, bullhead, wipers, white bass, and Sacramento perch among the most popular catches.
Explore the lake and its surroundings on one of the park’s many walking trails. Trails are available for motorized and non-motorized use. The American Discovery Trail, an epic multi-state trail that covers 500 miles of Nevada landscape, is also accessible from Washoe Lake State Park.
