This Montauk motel’s first renovation in 40 years embraces minimal coastal chic

Brooklyn Handy Home Studios has overhauled the interiors of Daunt’s Albatros Motel, bringing a new palette of breezy beachy shades and textures to the Montauk hideaway.

The studio provided a range of vintage furniture for the family motel to ensure that each of its 23 rooms is different. They sit next to a handful of custom pieces, including an alder wood daybed and a limestone and wood reception desk.

Rooms – which were last renovated in the early 1980s and start from $289 per night. – are decorated in soothing shades of blue and white, with rattan light fixtures, wall hangings and wooden furniture that all contribute to the beach house aesthetic.

The cozy atmosphere continues in Daunt’s outdoor space, which Home Studios has populated with lounge chairs and Adirondack fire pits. The motel is just 100 yards from the beach, but guests can take a dip in the motel’s saltwater pool before ordering s’mores from the front desk.
