Tybee Island expects intensive tourism for the holidays

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) – Holiday decorations are in place on Tybee Island and in just a few days the many holiday festivities will begin with Thanksgiving.

The folks at Visit Tybee say that after reviewing hotel and vacation rental bookings, Thanksgiving week here on Tybee should be busy.

Visit Tybee President Joe Marinelli said Tybee Island has been a popular destination since last fall and is sure to be so throughout the holiday season. Many factors, he says, come into play. Things like COVID-related fatigue, pent-up demand, vaccine distribution and the range of holiday events that are back this year. Marinelli says that even though there are a lot of visitors who have already made their reservations, there is always room for more!

“Obviously, and we talk to the hosting people on a regular basis, the numbers continue to remain strong. But listen, we’re saying very clearly that there are always rooms available. We are by no means in a sold out situation. There are always rooms available, ”said Joe Marinelli, President of Visit Tybee.

“It was just a great opportunity to visit our in-laws who live in Macon and a great day trip for us so we took advantage of it,” said Roxanne Combs, visiting from Missouri.

If you plan to be here on Tybee Day for Thanksgiving, you can find a list of restaurants that will be open on the Visit Savannah website. Plus, parking is free from Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day.
